Jurassic Park Legacy debuted to the public on November 12th, 2003. The site has been serving the community since as the prime information source of Jurassic Park Universe knowledge, with its ever-popular, and all inclusive, Jurassic Park Encyclopedia, sprouting many of the efforts put forth into "costuming" research and the like for the community. Designed to put the "Jurassic Park" interest back into the community, the site's all expansive information does just that.
Jurassic Park Legacy was not always named as such. It was renamed from the title of "Jurassic Park Movie Universe" on March 30, 2005 due to its revamped mission statement: to provide the fans with a canonically factual resource for the information organized from the magic of the films, the splendor of the novels, the wonder of the comics, and so forth, for the curious soul, aspiring fan-fiction writer, and the hard core fans.
The roots of JPLegacy can be found in the roots of two other excellent Jurassic Park websites, InGenNET (RIP) & JPDatabase. The Encyclopedia found its origins in InGenNET, but could not be completed due to server issues from InGenNET's host which, unfortunately and regretably, forced the website to shut down. It was a tragic loss to the entire Jurassic Park online fan community. JPDatabase opted for the Encyclopedia research and the project moved there. After a few unfortunate philosophical & creative differences, the Encyclopedia team decided it was best to build their own site to present the information obtained from the various souces the way they felt it should be.
The JPMU website, was originally hosted on a GeoCities address and, while not gaining major noterity, the site's creators used this time wisely to expand and plan for the website's future. Later JPMU would come hosted under a friend known as KyleRipman. Unfortunately, JPMU faced problem's when Kyle's own server shut down and the future of the site grew dark. It was decided that JPMU would move to AngelFire until an offer from another friend of Tyrannosaur's, known as Emuz, offered to sub-host JPMU under his kafuka.org address. The decision was made to expand the content and the offerings of JP Movie Universe and make it known as Jurassic Park Legacy forever from that day forth.
The site was relaunched with a new design, and major content upgrades were made to reflect this. Soon after this, a domain name was purchased, and again, servers changed, until Jurassic Park Legacy finally grew to what it has become today. It is our goal to be a service to the die hard fans of the movies. We take pride in all of our work here on Jurassic Park Legacy as we hope for a bright future full of fun, as well as informative, award-winning, and creative content to cover all broad aspects of the Jurassic Park fandom. We hope you enjoy your stay and interact with our online community here.
