Inside Out narrowly dethrones Jurassic World
Date: Monday, July 6, 2015 - 15:15 (Eastern) Author:Nublar7
While studio estimates yesterday showed Jurassic World narrowly repeating as the weekend box office champ for a 4th time, the actuals today proved differently. Based on weekend actuals from 'The Numbers', Inside Out won the weekend with $29.77 million and Jurassic World came in second place with $29.24 million.
While it didn't win four straight weekends, the box office run for Jurassic World continues to be very impressive. Most box office predictions before the Summer had Jurassic World surrendering the top spot at the weekend box office on the June 19th weekend, instead it held onto the top spot into the beginning of July.
Jurassic World is currently the top film domestically of the Summer and the year with $556.54 million. Baring a major suprise, Jurassic World will end the Summer movie season as the #1 movie domestically. Whether it will remain the top film of the year will depend on how well Star Wars: The Force Awakens does in December. Domestically, Jurassic World currently ranks #4 all-time and will likely end its run as the #3 movie of all-time domestically.
Worldwide Jurassic World continues to draw big numbers as the total worldwide gross currently stands at $1.38 million, which ranks second for 2015 behind Furious 7 and just above Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Jurassic World's worlwide rank is currently #5 all-time and could end as high as #3 just behind Avatar and Titanic.
Jaffa & Silver JP4 script featured made up dinosaur from China
Date: Sunday, July 5, 2015 - 23:13 (Eastern) Author:Nublar7
Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow spoke to 'IGN' about his job interview with Steven Spielberg, the production delay, and concepts in the original script. One very interesting item that Trevorrow revealed was that in the original script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the concept of the new big bad dinosaur was not a hybrid as was featured in the final film version. Instead, the new dinosaur was going to be a made up dinosaur that was discovered by paleontologists in China in-film only. Trevorrow changed the origin of the new dinosaur to a hybrid because he did not want to deceive audiences into thinking the new dinosaur actually existed.
Trevorrow also revealed that the concept of a fully functioning park, a new big bad dinosaur and the idea of a human/raptor relationship were Spielberg ideas that were carried over from the Silver and Jaffa script.
So what do you think? Are you glad that the new dinosaur ended up being the genetically engineered hybrid called Indominus Rex, or would you have preferred a made up dinosaur being passed off as real? Let us know in our forums!

Based on studio estimates from 'Deadline', the killer robots of the Terminator franchise were no match for the dinosaurs of Jurassic World. Jurassic World for the 4th straight weekend is projected to be the #1 movie domestically with a haul of $30.9 million. It narrowly is ahead of studio estimates of $30.1 million for Inside Out and we will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to know for sure if it in fact did four-peat.
With these estimates, Jurassic World is currently at $558.2 million domestically and $1.39 million worldwide.
