Movie director extraordinaire James Cameron (behind such hits as Aliens, Titanic and Avatar) recently revealed to HuffingtonPost at the newly-opened Titanic Museum in Belfast that he, alongside the likes of Tim Burton and Richard Donner, was a part of the bidding war to acquire the film adaptation rights to Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park. According to him, Steven Spielberg beat him to the punch "by a few hours". He also added:

"But when I saw the film, I realised that I was not the right person to make the film, he was. Because he made a dinosaur movie for kids, and mine would have been Aliens with dinosaurs, and that wouldn't have been fair."

"Dinosaurs are for 8-year-olds. We can all enjoy it, too, but kids get dinosaurs and they should not have been excluded for that. His sensibility was right for that film, I'd have gone further, nastier, much nastier."

This intriguing piece of news can't help but make the mind wonder what the Jurassic Park we all know and love would have been like if James Cameron took the director's chair instead of Steven Spielberg and made a far darker film. Special thanks to Sandhu for posting information on the board!

I say let him bring us the JP we deserve. I wouldn't mind a more adult-based Jurassic Park and it may be exactly what this franchise needs!
