|
| Dr.
Alan Grant |
|
| A
renowned paleontologist, Dr. Alan Grant's primary field of expertise was
Velociraptors. He had more theories on them than any other expert in his
field. For the longest time, he severely disliked children; he once terrified
an obnoxius boy with a fossil Raptor claw and a detailed description of
how the dinosaurs killed their prey. Grant's closest friend and colleague
was paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler, who was also his girlfriend for a
brief period. It was during a dig in Snakewater, Montana, that Dr. Grant
was contacted by John Hammond, the CEO of InGen Bioengineering, who had
been funding Grant and Sattler's digs. Hammond wanted Grant to be one
of the experts to come down to Isla Nublar, to endorse what he called
a "biological preserve." Grant was reluctant at first, but finally
agreed when Hammond offered to continue funding his digs for a further
three years. Once on Nublar, Grant was at first delighted to learn that
InGen had successfully cloned living dinosaurs, but his awe and wonder
quickly gave way to common sense. He told Hammond that with dinosaurs
and humans being mixed together after so long, they had no idea what to
expect. Soon he was proven right; power to the park was lost, and the
dinosaurs began escaping and killing people. Grant came through, though.
Overcoming his dislike of kids, he rescued Hammond's grandhildren, Tim
and Lex from the threat of the Tyrannosaur, and guided them back to the
safety of the park's visitor's center. During that time, he also discovered
that Dr. Ian Malcolm's theory was correct - the dinosaurs were breeding.
Following the Nublar incident, Grant returned to paleontology, despite
lack of public interest due to the incident in San Diego. It was this
lack of interest in paleontology that was slowly but surely killing Grant's
profession, prompting him to go from university to university in a usually
vain attempt to gain funding. At this point, Grant had decided the dinosaurs
created by InGen were but cheap imitations, "genetically engineered
theme-park monsters," and he attempted to convince others of this,
with limited success. It was around this time that Grant was approached
by Paul and Amanda Kirby. Supposedly wealthy adventurers, the Kirby's wanted
Grant to be their guide on an aerial tour of Site B on Isla Sorna. Grant
refused at first, but badly in need of funds, he accepted when Paul offered
to pay him any amount of money. However, he soon learned he had merely
been suckered into helping the Kirbys find their missing son, Eric. At
first cold, certain the boy was dead after eight weeks on Sorna, he soon
warmed up to the Kirbys. Separated from them and rescued by Eric from
a pack of Velociraptors, he rejoined the Kirbys with their boy. Together,
they escaped the island alive with the timely arrival of the US Navy and
Marines. Dr. Alan Grant was played by Sam Neill. The character of Dr.
Alan Grant is based off real-life paleonotologist Dr. Jack Horner. |

|
|
| Dr.
Ian Malcolm |
|
| One
of the experts brought to Isla Nublar to endorse John Hammond's Jurassic
Park. Dr. Ian Malcolm was considered by many of colleagues to be "too
trendy." A mathematician, apparant ex-hippy, and self-described "Chaotician,"
Ian was a firm believer in Chaos Theory. It was his opinion that the systems
at Jurassic Park were far too complex to be properly maintained, and were
therefore doomed to failure. He also felt that Hammond and his scientists
were undisciplined and foolish for choosing to bring dinosaurs back to
life, and that there was no possible way for them to control the animals.
Just to humor Hammond, he went out into the park for the tour. When the
power went out and the Tyrannosaur escaped, Dr. Alan Grant saved them
by distracting the Rex with a flare. Ian tried to help, imitating Grant's
idea, but when he threw the flare away, the Rex kept chasing him and finally
sent him flying through the wall of the restroom where Donald Gennaro
was hiding. Badly injured, Ian was buried in the rubble. Later, he was
rescued by Dr. Ellie Sattler and Robert Muldoon and thus made it off the
island alive. Ian tried to tell the public of the existance of the dinosaurs
following the incident, but Hammond's nephew Peter Ludlow prevented him
from doing so, making it seem as if Ian was profitting by selling stories
to the media. This utterly destroyed Ian's career as a scientist. Four
years later, Ian was called in by Hammond to be a part of the team being
sent in to Site B on Isla Sorna to document the dinosaurs. He refused,
and added he was going to call back the other members and tell them not
to go. When he found out his girlfriend Dr. Sarah Harding was already
on the island, he went to "rescue" her. He was especially dismayed
to learn that his daughter, Kelly Curtis, had also tagged along against
his wishes, and constantly did his best to protect her. Ian eventually
got himself caught up in Peter Ludlow's plans to take dinosaurs off the
island. When Ludlow foolishly brought the male Tyrannosaur to San Diego
and it escaped, Ian helped Sarah use the Rex's baby to lure it back to
the S.S. Venture, so that it could be recaptured and returned unharmed
to the island. They succeeded, and Ian's credibility was thus restored.
Dr. Ian Malcolm was played by Jeff Goldblum. |
|
|
|
| Dr.
Ellie Degler (Sattler) |
|
|
Paleobotanist and colleague of Dr. Alan Grant. She was also his girlfriend
for a short time, and they went on many digs together. When Grant was
contacted by John Hammond, the InGen CEO invited her along as well, needing
the opinion of a paleobotanist. Once on Isla Nublar, Ellie discovered
a species of plant that had been exctinct since the Cretacious period.
She quickly found something more interesting to focus her attention on,
however - a living, breathing Brachiosaur. Like Grant, Ellie was awed
and entranced by the dinosaurs that InGen had created, but only at first.
She too soon realized the dangers posed by Jurassic Park, especially in
the plants. Many of the plants displayed in the visitor's center, chosen
by Hammond for beauty, were actually poisonous. This implied that Hammond
and InGen were ignorant of the long-gone ecosystem in which these animals
came from, and knew little about the organisms they had created. When
they went on the park tour, Ellie stayed behind to help the park vet, Dr. Harding, with an ailing Triceratops, while the others went on ahead back
to the visitor's center. This probably saved her life, as she was not
present when the Tyrannosaur escaped its paddock due to a power loss,
and attacked the Explorer tour vehicles. After being dropped off back
at the visitor's center by Dr. Harding, Ellie returned to the wreckage
of the Explorers with game warden Muldoon. All they found were the remains
of Donald Gennaro and a badly injured Dr. Ian Malcolm; Grant and Hammond's
grandchildren were nowhere to be found. Later, with the help - and sacrifice
- of Muldoon, Ellie was able to access the park generator shed and restore
the power, allowing Lex Murphy to boot up the phones to call for help.
Reunited with Grant, she escaped the island with him and the other survivors. Some
years later, Ellie and Grant broke up for unspecified reasons, and she
married a man named Mark Degler. They had two children, including three-year
old Charlie. She and Grant still kept in touch and remained friends, however.
When Grant and the Kirby family became stranded on Isla Sorna, Ellie came
to their rescue. She used her husband's connections in the State Department
to send the US Navy and Marines to Sorna, saving them. Dr. Ellie Sattler/Degler
was played by Laura Dern. |
|
|
|
| Dr.
John Hammond |
|
| Billionaire
businessman and CEO of InGen Bioengineering, grandfather to Tim and Lex
Murphy, uncle of Peter Ludlow. John Hammond was the man behind the dream
that was Jurassic Park. The scientists at his company had discovered a
method of extracting dinosaur blood from mosquitoes fossilized in amber,
gained by funding many paleontological digs. Using the DNA they extracted,
they were able to clone living dinosaurs. Hammond decided to build a theme
park, where people could come and view the animals. Prior to establishing
Jurassic Park on Isla Nublar in Costa Rica, Hammond had dreamt of an amphitheater
in San Diego. He eventually abandoned the idea in favor of the more lavish
Isla Nublar location. However, as the facility neared its completion,
disaster struck. A worker was killed by a Velociraptor, and his family
filed a $20,000,000 lawsuit against InGen. This made InGen's investors
very nervous, and they demanded Hammond bring in several experts to endorse
the park. Thus, Hammond brought in Doctors Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, and
Ellie Sattler, and lawyer Donald Gennaro, as well as his grandchildren,
to view the park. Disaster struck again, however, when greedy employee
Dennis Nedry turned traitor and sabotaged the park systems, allowing the
dinosaurs to escape. Hammond kept his cool, though. He coached Ellie through
the steps to restore the power so that they could call for help, and looked
after a badly-injured Malcolm. Following the incident on Isla Nublar,
Hammond's position as company chief was wrestled from him by Peter Ludlow.
Ludlow planned to exploit Site B on Isla Sorna, which was the 'factory
floor," as Hammond put it. Hammond knew public opinion was the only
way to prevent Ludlow from pillaging Site B, and so he sent in Malcolm
and some other experts to document the dinosaurs. In the end, his plan
succeeded, and Isla Sorna was designated a protected wildlife preserve by
the Costa Rican government. While he was seen as deathly ill in "The
Lost World," it is unknown if Hammond is dead. Dr. John Hammond
was played by Sir Richard Attenborough. |
|
|
|
| Tim
Murphy |
|
| The
nine-year-old grandson of John Hammond. Hammond had his grandchildren
come to the island to visit Jurassic Park before it opened to the public.
Tim has an incredible knowledge of dinosaurs from reading books by Robert
Bakker and Alan Grant. Tim likes to taunt his older sister, and he talks
so much about dinosaurs that Dr. Grant gets annoyed with him. However,
Tim and Grant soon come to an understanding when they must fight for their
survival. Tim is seen in The Lost World: Jurassic Park as he and
his sister briefly reunite with Dr. Ian Malcolm for a little reunion.
Tim Murphy was played by Joseph Mazzello. |
|
|
|
| Alexis
"Lex" Murphy |
|
| Thirteen-year
old granddaughter of John Hammond and older sister of Tim. She and her
younger brother came to Jurassic Park to visit their grandfather, and
also to go on the initial tour of the park, since Hammond seemed to be
specifically aiming the park at children. A bit of a computer nerd, and
a self-described "hacker," Lex was amazed by the level of technology
displayed in the Explorer tour car's onboard CD-rom system. During the
tour, she disliked the fact the Tyrannosaur was fed live goats, but was
nonetheless disappointed when the dinosaur did not show itself at first.
Lex was very nearly traumatized by the Tyrannosaur's attack on the tour
vehicle she and her brother were in when Donald Gennaro, who had been
riding with them, abandoned them in panic moments before the attack came.
Because if this, she at first refused to leave Dr. Alan Grant's side following
the ordeal. Eventually though, she calmed down and became her old self
again. After arriving at the visitor's center and narrowly escaping death
at the claws of Velociraptors in the kitchen, she ran to the control room
with Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Tim. There, she used her computer skills
on Dennis Nedry's computer, and managed to fix what he had done by rebooting
the phones and door locks, allowing the survivors to call for help. She
survived the ordeal. Like ber brother, she showed up again for a brief
renunion with Dr. Ian Malcolm at their grandfather's mansion. Alexis "Lex"
Murphy was played by Arianna Richards. |
|
|
|
| Robert
Muldoon |
|
| Jurassic
Park's game warden. Robert Muldoon was from Kenya, and had been a long-time
employee of John Hammond, working at Hammond's animal park in his homeland.
A very cautious and levelheaded man, Muldoon was of the opinion that the
park's Velociraptors were too dangerous to be kept, and should be destroyed.
He especially felt this way after a terrible incident in which an innocent
worker was killed, despite Muldoon's best efforts to save him. When the
power went out, Muldoon took a gas-powered jeep at Hammond's request and,
along with Dr. Ellie Sattler, went looking for their stranded friends.
They found one Explorer abandoned, the other crumpled at the base of a
tree, and a badly wounded Dr. Ian Malcolm. The Tyrannosaur appeared, but
Muldoon was able to outrun it in the jeep, getting himself, Ian, and Ellie
to safety. Later, when Ellie went to the generator shed to get the power
back on, Muldoon went with her. They discovered that when Ray Arnold had
done an emergency shutdown to reboot, it had turned off the fence around
the Velociraptors' pen, allowing them to escape. Muldoon covered Ellie's
flight to the shed, and then took it upon himself to hunt the alpha female
Raptor. However, the hunter became the hunted, as Muldoon realized too
late a second Raptor was beside him. He had no time to react before the
animal sprang from the bushes and tore him apart. Robert Muldoon was played
by the late Bob Peck. |
|
|
|
| Dennis
T. Nedry |
|
| Jurassic
Park's chief computer programmer. Dennis Nedry was a grossly overweight,
sloppy man who was very much disliked by his coworkers. He designed the
system which ran the island, and was counted on by John Hammond to keep
it up and running, with additional help from men like Ray Arnold. Nedry,
who was suffering from unspecified financial problems, felt that Hammond
was cheating him by not paying him as much as he wanted for his job. After
he had failed to persuade Hammond to raise his pay, he turned traitor
and secretly met with Lewis Dodgson, who represented a rival genetics
company of InGen's. For a sizable sum, half up front and half on delivery,
Nedry agreed to smuggle embryos of all 15 dinosaur species off of Isla
Nublar for Dodgson. To do so, he had to shut down all the safety systems
so as to avoid the electric fences and spying security cameras. With the
power gone, the dinosaurs began escaping from their pens and killing people.
On his way to the East Dock to meet Dodgson's contact, the merchandise
in tow, Nedry wrecked his jeep. While struggling with the winch to pull
the vehicle back onto the road, he encountered a cute, seemingly harmless
Dilophosaurus. Much to Nedry's surprise, the dinosaur turned vicious quickly,
and spat it's gooey black venom into his eyes, blinding him. Nedry scrambled
back into the jeep to escape, only to find the Dilophosaur in his jeep
waiting for him. He was promptly killed and devoured by the dinosaur.
As for the embryos, the can they were in fell from his pocket during the
struggle and was buried in the mud. Dennis T. Nedry was played by Wayne
Knight. |
|
|
|
| Donald
Gennaro |
|
| A
lawyer representing InGen's investors. Donald Gennaro was dispatched to
look into the affair at Jurassic Park following the accident involving
the death of a worker. His employers wanted Hammond to get experts to
sign off on the island, and Gennaro was sent to get Dr. Ian Malcolm. They
thought he was "too trendy," but decided to have him come along
anyway. Gennaro had no idea what was being done on Isla Nublar. Upon arriving,
he was stunned by the sight of a real-live Brachiosaurus. Before, he was
skeptical of Jurassic Park's future, but after seeing the dinosaurs he
became certain they could make a fortune with it. Gennaro wanted to make
it so they charge up to $2,000 or $10,000 a day for visitors. However,
Hammond made him back down by saying that everyone in the world had the
right to see the dinosaurs, not just the super-rich. Gennaro went on the
tour with Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler, Malcolm, and Hammond's grandchildren.
When the Tyrannosaur escaped its paddock, Gennaro abandoned the kids in
a fit of wild panic, hiding in a nearby outhouse. This did not save him
for long, though. While chasing Malcolm, the Tyrannosaur knocked over
Gennaro's hiding place. Taking one look at the lawyer, the dinosaur quickly
gobbled him up off the toilet he was crouched on. Donald Gennaro was played
by Martin Ferrero. |
|
|
|
| John
Raymond Arnold |
|
| One
of Jurassic Park's computer programmers/control room technicians, Ray
Arnold was an apparant chain-smoker; he was rarely seen without a cigarette
in his mouth. When Dennis Nedry shut down the park's safety systems, it
was Arnold who was given the bothersome task of finding out what he did
and how to fix it. After failing to get past Nedry's hacker-style blocks,
Arnold decided that shutting off the power would erase all he did, and
then the system would come back on in its original startup mode. He was
able to shut down the power from the control room, but to properly restore
it, he had to go to the generator shed. He never returned. Upon going
after him, Dr. Ellie Sattler found only his severed arm and the hungry
Velociraptor that killed him. Ray Arnold was played by Samuel L. Jackson. |
|
|
|
| Dr.
Gerry Harding |
|
| The
veterinarian at Jurassic Park, Dr. Gerry Harding made sure all the dinosaurs
remained healthy and when one became ill, he was on hand to treat it.
He was first seen treating a sick Triceratops. With paleobotanist Dr.
Ellie Sattler's help, he was able to diagnose the animal's condition.
Apparantly, it had eaten a poisonous plant called the West Indian Lilac
and become ill, despite his previous belief that the dinosaurs didn't
eat them. Later, Dr. Harding drove Ellie back to the visitor's center
in his gas-powered jeep. He left the island prior to the accident, along
with Dr. Henry Wu and the others. Dr. Gerry Harding was played by Gerald
R. Molen, who was also one of the film's producers. |
|
|
|
| Dr.
Henry Wu |
|
| Jurassic
Park's chief geneticist. Dr. Henry Wu was the man who engineered all of
the dinosaurs to be female, to prohibit their breeding as a form of population
control. He also made them lysine-deficient, so that if they ever got
off the island they would be unable to survive for very long. Dr. Wu didn't
believe Dr. Ian Malcolm's theory that "life would find a way."
He insisted his efforts had ensured complete control over the animals
in Jurassic Park. He was gravely mistaken. But, luckily for Dr. Wu, he
left the island before the accident along with InGen's other unessential
employees on the boat back to the mainland. Dr. Henry Wu was played by
B. D. Wong. |
|
|
|
| Lewis
Dodgson |
|
| A
man representing InGen's mysterious rival company. He met with Dennis
Nedry in San Jose and hired him to steal dinosaur embryos from InGen's
facility on Isla Nublar. Lewis Dodgson was played by Cameron Thor. |
|
|
|
| Juanito
Rostango |
|
| Proprietor
of the amber mines in the Dominican Republic from which InGen obtained a considerable
bulk of its amber. He met with Donald Gennaro at the mines, to tell him
Hammond couldn't see him on the matter of the lawsuit by the family of
the worker killed by a Velociraptor. Juanito Rostango was played by Miguel
Sandoval. |
|
|
|
| Richard
Kiley |
|
| His
voice was used for the Jurassic Park Tour Guide in the Ford Explorer Tour
Vehicles. John Hammond said he had spared no exspense in hiring Kiley
for the job. Richard Kiley died of Bone Marrow Disease on March 5, 1999.
May He Rest in Peace. |
|
|
|
| Mr.

|
| An
animated cartoon DNA Strand, he was to help explain the process of cloning
& genetic engineering to the Jurassic Park tourists. Mr. DNA was voiced
by actor Greg Burson. |
|
|
|
| Jophery |
|
| A
worker at Jurassic Park, Jophrey's duty was gatekeeper of the Velociraptor
pen. When they were moving one of the Raptors into the pen, disaster struck.
The Raptor grabbed Jophery, pulling him into its crate. He was killed,
despite game warden Robert Muldoon's efforts to save him. His family was
then the first to file a wrongful death lawsuit against InGen, and they
weren't the last. Jophrey was played by Jophery C. Brown. |
|
|
|
| Jerry
(I) |
|
|
|
| Volunteer
at Dr. Alan Grant's dig site in Snakewater, Montana. A computer expert,
he operated the PC detailing an undug Velociraptor skeleton. Jerry was
possibly played by Christopher John Fields, who was only credited as "Volunteer." |

|
| Dr.
Sarah Harding |
|
| Dr.
Ian Malcolm's paleontologist girlfriend. Dr. Sarah Harding first met Ian
when she'd heard the rumors about the incident at Isla Nublar. She came
down to the hospital in Costa Rica where he'd been sent to recover from
his injuries, to ask whether the rumors were true. They started dating
after that. A specialist in dinosaur parenting behavior, Sarah was one
of those who theorized that the Tyrannosaurus Rex was a caring, attentive
parent. Her chief rival was Dr. Robert Burke, whose own pet theory was
that T-Rex was a rogue who abandoned its young early. When John Hammond
needed a paleontologist for his research team he was sending to Isla Sorna,
Sarah immediately volunteered. She did this without Ian's knowledge, since
she knew if he found out she decided to go he'd do everything he could
to stop her. She went to the island ahead of Nick Van Owen and Eddie Carr,
and met them and Ian, who she was surprised even came, later when they
arrived. While she was thankful that Ian had come to "rescue"
her, she told him as politely as possible she didn't need rescuing and
could handle herself. When an infant Tyrannosaur was injured by Peter
Ludlow and his hunters, Sarah and Nick brought the baby back to the trailer.
It was Nick's idea, and at first Sarah wanted notihng to do with it. They
fixed its broken leg, only to be attacked by the angry parents looking
for their child, clarifying Sarah's theory on Rex parenting. Later, it
was her jacket stained with the baby's blood that again attracted the
Tyrannosaur parents, resulting the deaths of several hunters and almost
her own. When the male was taken back to San Diego by Ludlow and escaped,
it was Sarah who tranquilized him so that he and the baby could be safely
returned to Isla Sorna. Dr. Sarah Harding was played by Julianne Moore. |
|
|
|
| Nick
Van Owen |
|
| A
member of the team sent into Isla Sorna to observe and document its dinosaurs.
Nick Van Owen was John Hammond's choice for video documentarian, having
done lots of work in combat situations. He even did volunteer work with
Greenpeace, though he openly admitted he only did so because Greenpeace
was 80% female, at least according to him. Nick was also a notorious ecoterrorist
and active environmentalist. In fact, that was another reason Hammond
hired him. When it became known that Peter Ludlow's men were running down
and capturing dinosaurs, Nick acted fast. He broke the locks on the dinosaur's
cages, allowing them to break free, and also sabotaged the hunters' vehicles.
He even later personally stole the shells from Roland Tembo's shotgun.
Finding a badly injured baby Tyrannosaur with a broken leg, he took it
back to Sarah and they brought it to the mobile lab trailer where they mended
its leg. Nick later saved Sarah and Kelly by pulling them behind a waterfall
to escape the pursuing mother Tyrannosaur. Shortly thereafter, Nick got
the old InGen communications center working so that they could call for
help. Nick Van Owen was played by Vince Vaughn. |
|
|
|
| Eddie
Carr |
|
| Field
equipment expert sent to Isla Sorna by Hammond. He designed and provided
most of the equipment and vehicles used by the team. Eddie had nothing
but contempt for Dr. Ian Malcolm's attitude toward technology, disliking
his rough treatment of their equipment. Despite his meek, slow appearance,
Eddie was quite intelligent and knew a little about weaponry as well.
He brought along a Lindstradt air rifle, loaded with a fast-acting, deadly
neurotoxin, to use if necessary. He also brought along a treehouse-like
structure called a "high hide," which was designed to act as
a lookout for the researchers. When Ian, Dr. Sarah Harding, and Nick Van
Owen were attacked by the Tyrannosaurs in the mobile command trailer,
Eddie leapt heroically into action. He attached the cable winch of his
Mercedes M-Class to the bumper of the trailer, trying to keep it held
steady and from going over the cliff long enough for them to climb out.
Unfortunately, this activity attracted the attention of the Tyrannosaurs.
They pulled Eddie from the Mercedes even as he went for his deadly rifle,
literally tearing the poor man in two between themselves. Eddie Carr was
played by Richard Schiff. |
|
|
|
| Kelly
Curtis |
|
The
daughter of Ian Malcolm. Malcolm is never home, and Kelly is usually dumped
on some babysitter or relative. Having no real father take care of her,
Kelly has learned to take care of herself. She joined the gymnastics team
at school, but was cut from the team when her attitude conflicted with
the coach. Her gymnastics skills have not lessoned, as Kelly has practiced
gymnastics all of her life. She decided that she would not let Malcolm
leave her behind anymore, as she stows away in the trailer, thus arriving
at Site B. Kelly is sometimes confused with having the last name of Malcolm
on other sources, but the credits list her as "Kelly Curtis".
Kelly Curtis was played by Vanessa Lee Chester
|
|
|
|
| Peter
Ludlow |
|
| Nephew
of John Hammond and cousin to Tim and Lex Murphy. This quietly spoken
but hateful man was responsible for destroying Dr. Ian Malcolm's career.
He made certain no one would believe Malcolm's claims about what had happened
at Jurassic Park. Ludlow was also apparantly married, due to the fact
he was shown to wear a wedding band. He used the incident involving the
Bowman's discovery of Isla Sorna to dethrone his uncle and make himself
CEO of InGen Bioengineering. InGen was all but bankrupt after the incident
on Isla Nublar. Ludlow, who knew of the existence of Site B on Isla Sorna,
decided to bail the company out by exploiting the island's dinosaurs.
He assembled a ragtag group of hunters and mercenaries, including the
famed Roland Tembo, and went to Sorna. Using a virtual army of snaggers,
jeeps, trucks, and motorcycles, his men rounded up several dinosaurs,
tearing up the terrain of the island in the process. Ludlow planned to
take them back to the mainland to put on display at zoos. But thanks to
the actions of Nick Van Owen, his attempts failed, albeit briefly. He
arranged for the male Tyrannosaur, which had been tranquilized by Roland,
and its baby to be shipped back to San Diego aboard the cargo ship S.S.
Venture. This resulted in the adult Rex escaping and running loose in
the city, killing one person and causing general chaos. When Ian Malcolm
and Dr. Sarah Harding brought the baby Rex back to the S.S. Venture, hoping
to lure the parent there, Ludlow stupidly attempted to recapture the young
dinosaur by himself. This only ended in him being killed. Cornered by
the adult, he became the baby's first kill when its father used him to
teach it how to hunt. Peter Ludlow was played by Arliss Howard. |
|
|
|
| Roland
Tembo |
|
| A
big game hunter from Mombassa, Roland Tembo was widely regarded as the
best of the best. He was chosen by Peter Ludlow to be the team leader
of his expedition to Isla Sorna to capture dinosaurs, although he originally
turned down the invitation. Bored with hunting because he was always too
successful, he believed no quarry existed on Earth that could give him
a challenge. He was so bored in fact, that he purposefully picked a fight
with some rowdy tourists in his favorite Mombassa bar for harrassing a
waitress and interrupting his reading. His longtime friend Ajay Sidhu
is the one who ended up convincing him to go to Sorna. An extremely levelheaded,
serious man, Roland took charge with an iron fist, bossing even Ludlow
around. He made sure the men under his command made no mistakes and performed
only to the very best of their ability. Uninterested in money, Roland
made certain Ludlow allowed his payment to be the right to hunt one of
the male Tyrannosaurs. To this end, he attempted to use a baby Tyrannosaur
as bait to lure the adult into the open. Despite being a hunter, Roland
was not bloodthirsty or cruel, unlike Dieter Stark. When Dieter was killed
he showed a rarely-seen compassionate side and asked that no one tell
Kelly, and when he saw Sarah's bloody jacket, thinking it was her blood,
he immedietly made sure she was alright. Because Nick Van Owen had stolen
the shells from his shotgun, Roland had to use tranquilizers to defeat
the male Tyrannosaur when it attacked the hunters' makeshift camp. Afterwards
he learned that Ajay had been killed, news that deeply saddened him. Not wanting to spend any more time "in the company of death,"
Roland wisely quit Ludlow's employ, turning down a job offer at InGen,
and went home. Roland Tembo was played by Peter Postlethwaite. |
|
|
|
| Ajay
Sidhu |
|
| Roland
Tembo's friend from East India and lifelong hunting companion. Ajay is
the one who convinced Roland to let himself be hired by Peter Ludlow,
and tagged along on the expedition as well. A quiet man, Ajay kept mostly
to himself, and usually only said anything to Roland. He was with him
during his first attempt to hunt the male Tyrannosaur, and later when
Roland returned after searching for the missing Dieter, Ajay sat up waiting
for him and came immedietly with a canteen of water for his exhausted
friend. When the Tyrannosaurs attacked the camp, Ajay tried to stay with
Roland, but two other hunters who must've thought he was crazy grabbed
him and dragged him along for what they thought was his own good. After
outrunning the female Rex, the group ran into a field of tall grass. Ajay
knew tall grass was where predators lurked, but the other hunters were
too panicked to listen to him. He followed, trying to stop them. Sadly,
he only got himself killed when, as he'd predicted, a pack of Velociraptors
attacked the group. Ajay Sidhu was played by Harvey Jason. |
|
|
|
| Dieter
Stark |
|
| A
lazy-eyed man of Germanic origin, Dieter Stark was Roland Tembo's right-hand
man when it came to base camps. He was among the hunters hired by Peter
Ludlow. Dieter was very sadistic and cruel. He enjoyed tormenting animals,
and was also quick to start fights. He constantly zapped the tiny Compys with his portable cattle prod for
fun, and this harsh act eventually became his downfall. While going off to relieve himself, he told his only
friend in the world, Carter, to wait up for him. However, Dieter didn't
notice that Carter had his headphones on, and thus couldn't hear him.
After wandering a good distance, Dieter was startled by a Compy and decided
to enjoy himself by zapping it. In chasing the little dinosaur, he got
himself lost. Trying to find his way back to the others, Dieter tumbled
down a hill and into a stream, where he was set upon by a horde of the
now vicious Compys. He escaped briefly and ran away, but was eventually
chased down and overcome by the Compys, which tore him to bits. Dieter
Stark was played by Peter Stormare. |

| Dr.
Robert Burke |
|
| One
of the most revered paleontologists in the world. His theories on the
Tyrannosaurus rex have made him most famous. Burke spends most of his
time on digs and lecturing college students at universities. He spent
hours of his life studying the bones of dinosaurs and trying to recreate
for everyone the habits of dinosaurs. InGen recruited him for his scientific
genius, and his knowledge turns out to be valuable when identifying the
different species of dinosaurs, even though he incorrectly identified
Composognathus as Procompsognathus. While Dr. Burke was attempting to flee the female Tyrannosaur, he unfortunately became it's meal. Dr. Robert Burke was played by Thomas
F. Duffy. |

Stark's driver in one of the jeeps on Isla Sorna during the Hunter expedition
to recapture select dinosaur species for transport to Jurassic Park: San
Diego. Unfortunately, Carter met his death at the foot of the female Tyrannosaurus
on Isla Sorna in the South Eastern section of the island after the Tyrannosaurs
ambushed the InGen Hunter's temporary base camp. Carter was played by
Thomas Rosales Jr. |

| A
young British girl whose wealthy family while on a yacht cruise stopped
on the beach of Isla Sorna for a picnic, unaware that the island was inhabited
by dinosaurs. Wandering away from her parents, she ran into a Compy, whom
she gave part of her sandwich. This only attracted more Compys, and when
the sandwich ran out, they attacked her. Though she survived, her parents
were next in line to sue InGen. Cathy Bowman was played by Camilla Belle. |

| Crat,
Gomez, Leon, Berner, Jerry (II), Hampton, and Smith |
Crat was an inGen Harbor Worker. Gomez was an InGen Harbor Worker. Possibly
escaped before the Venture collided with the building, but doubtful. Leon
was another InGen Harbor Worker, Berner was an off-duty San Diego cop
in charge of security at the InGen waterfront complex, seemingly more
intelligent than most of his colleagues. He and Peter Ludlow inspected
the wreckage of the S.S. Venture. When Ludlow asked about the crew, Berner
replied that they were "all over the place." Jerry (II) was
another off-duty San Diego cop at the InGen waterfront complex, who refused
to let Ian Malcolm and Sarah Harding past the main gate. Later, he foolishly
opened the cargo hold of the S.S. Venture, allowing the Tyrannosaur to
escape. Hampton was a guard posted at the InGen waterfront complex, who
let Ian Malcolm and Sarah Harding past the gate after Jerry refused to.
Later, he informed them on the situation about the Tyrannosaur's overdose
of the tranquilizer antidote, and provided Sarah with the tranquilizer
gun which she later used to shoot the Rex. Smith was an InGen Security
Guard. |

|
| Paul
Kirby |
|
| This
man approached Dr. Alan Grant with an interesting proposition; he'd pay
any amount of money, if Grant would his guide on an aerial tour of Isla
Sorna. He claimed to be a survivalist enthusiast, and very wealthy. The
trip was to be part of his and his wife Amanda's anniversary celebration.
Paul's true intention for going to the island was to find his son, Eric,
who had gone missing eight weeks prior. To do so, he hired several mercenaries
and obtained the services of Grant. This he did dishonestly; because he
lied to Grant to get him to come, he practically kidnapped him. After
narrowly escaping death at the hands of a hungry Spinosaurus, Paul admitted
that he was not even actually rich. He was merely the humble owner of
a hardware store called Kirby Paint & Tile Plus; his personal cell
phone was even programmed to ring to the tune of the store's catchy jingle.
Even though Grant did not believe a twelve year old boy could survive
for eight weeks, Paul did not give up hope. At the suggestion of mercenary
Udesky, he and Amanda tagged along with Grant, hoping to run into Eric
along the way to the coast to signal for help. However, it was Grant who
found Eric, and Paul was reunited with his son. Later, he managed to get
the abandoned riverboat working, so that they could travel downriver to
get to the coast. When the Spinosaur returned, Paul risked his life to
climb atop an abandoned crane and distract the dinosaur long enough for
Grant to scare it away with a flare gun. Following the terrible ordeal,
Paul returned to a quiet life in Oklahoma with his wife and son. Paul
Kirby was played by William H. Macy. |
|
|
|
| Amanda
Kirby |
|
| Estranged
wife of Paul Kirby and mother of Eric. She and Paul had been apart for
some time, but when their son went missing on Isla Sorna along with Ben
Hildebrand, she rejoined Paul to help find him. Posing as a once-again
married couple, they talked Dr. Alan Grant into coming along as guide
for a "tour" of the island. Upon landing, Amanda quickly showed
that, while she was desperate to find her son, she wasn't exactly the
brightest person in the world. She kept yelling for Eric and Ben through
a bullhorn, and this attracted a hungry Spinosaur, which killed mercenary
Cooper and then caused their plane to crash as it tried to take off. Amanda
soon showed she also had an annoying talent for not listening to anything
Dr. Grant said. Following the attack by Velociraptors, she and Paul tried
to climb down to help the badly injured Udesky, but it was a trap set
by the intelligent dinosaurs. She just barely avoided sharing the doomed
mercenary's fate. Later, the group was surrounded by the Raptors, demanding
back the eggs which Billy Brennan had stolen. The alpha female thought
Amanda had stolen the eggs, so she had to personally return them. Amanda
presumably got back together with Paul afterwards. Amanda Kirby was played
by Téa Leoni. |
|
|
|
| Eric
Kirby |
|
| Twelve-year
old son of Paul and Amanda Kirby. Eric stayed with his mother when his
parents split up since she wasn't a safety nut like Paul, and let him
do dangerous stunts with his mother's boyfriend, Ben Hildebrand. He opted
to go to Isla Sorna to see some of the native animals. He and Ben hired
Enrique Cardoso, a shifty man who ran a parasailing operation called "Dino-Soar."
While they were parasailing over the island, Enrique's boat below, which
was pulling them along as they flew, went through a fog bank. There were
several thumps and jerks on the line, and when the boat came out again,
Enrique and his driver were gone. Worse, the out of control boat was speeding
toward some rocks. Luckily, Ben unclipped them and they drifted into the
jungles of the island. Ben was killed, but Eric survived by hiding in
an overturned water truck, using desperately-gotten Tyrannosaur urine to
keep the other predators away. Eight weeks later, he was saved by Alan
Grant. Rather, he saved Alan, using the last of his scavanged smoke bombs
to scare away a pack of Velociraptors. He was then reunited with his parents
when he thought he heard his father's phone, but Paul told him the phone
had been in the possession of Nash when he was eaten by the Spinosaur.
Sure enough, the Spino, with ringing belly, arrived. They all narrowly
escaped. Later in the aviary, he was grabbed by a huge Pteranodon, which
attempted to feed him to its chirping hatchlings. Eric was rescued by
Grant's assistant Billy, nearly at the cost of Billy's life. He survived
the ordeal with both of his parents. Eric Kirby was played by Trevor Morgan. |
|
|
|
| Billy
Brennan |
|
| Assistant
to Dr. Alan Grant. Billy knew quite a bit about computers and technology,
much to the dismay of the "mechanically impaired" Grant. Billy
went along when Grant was hired by the Kirbys, but only because Grant
didn't want to be alone with total strangers. Along the way to Isla Sorna,
Billy told Grant the story of how when he and some friends were hangliding
in New Zealand, an updraft swept him against a cliff. He had been saved
by the strap of his camera bag. Since then, it became his "lucky"
strap. Once on the island, Billy foolishly decided to take two Velociraptor
eggs from their nest, hoping to sell them to further fund his and Grant's
digs. Because of this, the group was soon relentlessly pursued by the
eggs' angry parents, who killed Udesky. When Grant learned what Billy
had done, he was furious. But, when Eric Kirby was endangered by Pteranodons,
Billy redeemed himself in Grant's eyes by strapping on the Dino-Soar parachute
they'd found and risking his life to save Eric. He fell into the water,
and the Pteranodons pecked ceaselessly at him. The others thought he'd
been killed, but he later turned up alive when the Navy and Marines came.
He'd rescued Grant's lost hat as well, which he returned to his grateful
mentor. Billy Brennan was played by Alesandro Nivola. |

|
|
| M.
B. Nash |
|
| One
of the mercenaries hired by the Kirbys to help them find their son, and
an ex-Sergeant Major according to his dogtags. M. B. Nash was pilot of
the plane that brought the Kirbys and their party to Isla Sorna. During
the first attack by the Spinosaur, Nash tried to get everyone off the
island in the plane. He crashed when he lost control, thanks to the Spino.
Following the crash, the Spino tore open the cockpit, and pulled Nash
from the plane. He was dropped, and tried to crawl away, but he was then
stepped on and eaten by the Spino. Nash had the Kirbys' cell phone on
him at the time of his death, so they later had to dig through the Spinosaur's
droppings to locate it. M. B. Nash was played by Bruce A. Young. |
|
|
|
| Cooper |
|
| Mercenary
and weapons specialist hired by the Kirbys. Upon being questioned by Billy,
he claimed he knew the Kirbys "through church." Shortly after
their arrival on Sorna, Cooper was badly injured by the Spinosaurus. He
tried, without success, to flag down the plane as it took off. Cooper
was then killed when the Spino burst from the jungle next to him, snatching
him up and eating him. Cooper was played by John Diehl. |
|
|
|
| Udesky |
|
| The
booking agent for Cooper and Nash's crew of mercenaries. He co-piloted
the jet with Nash that took Amanda Kirby, Paul Kirby, Dr. Alan Grant,
Billy Brennan, and Cooper to Isla Sorna. After the Spinosaurus ambush
on the plane Udesky survived up until his deadly encounter with the deadly
Velociraptor "antirrhopus sornaensis" sensu Paul of Isla Sorna's
North Western section. The Velociraptors used Udesky's body as a trap
for Billy Brennan, Paul Kirby, and Amanda Kirby. When the three humans
didn't fall for the trap the male Velociraptor in the group quickly
snapped Udesky's neck. Udesky was played by the late and great Michael
Jeter. |

Degler was played by Taylor Nichols. |
|
|
|
| Ben
Hildebrand |
|
| Boyfriend
of Amanda Kirby. He took Eric Kirby who went parasailing with him, bringing
along a video camera to get footage of the dinosaurs. When Enrique's driverless
boat was headed for jagged rocks, Ben unclipped his and Eric's parasail,
allowing them to drift safely onto Isla Sorna. Sometime during their stay
on the island, Ben was killed by Velociraptors. His well-decayed remains
were found eight weeks later by the rescuers, along with his camera, whose
footage showed that Eric was still alive. Ben Hildebrand was played by
Mark Harelik. |
|
|
|
| Enrique
Cardoso |
|
| Proprieter
of the Dino-Soar parasailing ride. Enrique made illegal runs to the protected
island of Isla Sorna, to allow tourists to parasail close to the island
and view the dinosaurs. His last clients were Eric Kirby and Ben Hildebrand.
Going through a fog bank while they were soaring above, he and his driver
were killed by an unseen dinosaur. Enrique Cardoso was played by Julio
Oscar Mechoso. |
